First Meeting with Mentor

I had layed out a couple topics on what we should talk about which we followed briefly:

Make experiences that improve lives considering branding, market research, and business concerns.

Two solutions: transperent solutions for people that just want to live their lives (bedsheet sensors for heart attack victims). Make gadgets for people that like gagdets (Iphone).

He tried several positions in the company in several capacities for a year and found his niche.

Communication: simple, understandable words that are easily translated, use of pictures

Use of product “essence statement”  to make sure the people dowstream understand what you are trying to convey so the product doesn’t get diluted

Sketching and rendering skills are still vital.  Computers and 3D programs are able to make rapid prototypes but aren’t a substitute for thinking.

Most ID people have great skills but don’t have core values that they are really good at.  Find a niche where no one can touch you.

He is focusing on communication now: use a product design focus on the compnay annual report.
