Summation

Over the course of the semester I have done a large amount of pondering on my philosophy on design.  I think I have tried to get to the core of what I have always known but didn’t apply to design.  I have discussed my ideas with my mentor and he suggested that I study Eames on how he used the authenticity in the materials he worked with.

The form show describe function in an understated attractive manner \ not embellishing the function.  I realized that I must only the best materials that enhance the quality not compromise it, if there is anything that can/will break, it must me modular for replacement.

I truly believe that there is a loss in connection if all the functions are automated.  Just look at any kid interacting with a big lever, they always pull it.  I must remember not to design the fun out of the product.

Though my philosophy has a standard of a very serious philosophy of “emphasizing go and not show,” I really enjoy occationally designing strictly playful products that don’t necessarily add function but more fun.

My background in sales and marketing make me stress that these all these concepts should have a research and a target market.  I can design concepts that I love but at the end of the day, these are ultimately going to be sold to make my living.  An important consideration for anything is BE READY.  Be ready for anything you can think of, jump at opportunities, have things together at all times.

I have certainly learned quite a bit about layouts, portfolios, as well as design culture this semester.  I really enjoyed the presentations of the design trends as well as the talks from designers outside of academia.
